1:05-2:00PM HF-PEF, Puff ‘n Stuff - Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction - Dr. Dan Patton, MD, FRCPC Cardiologist
Objectives: After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Identify how to diagnose heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
2. Differentiate between hypertensive heart disease and more unusual secondary causes of HF-PEF
3. Recognize treatments that have limited impact on HF-PEF
4. Identify new effective therapies for HF-PEF
2:00-2:40PM Navigating Special Authority & Drug Costs- Dr. Melanie Carter, BSc (Pharm), ACPR, PharmD
Objectives: After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Outline approximate costs of common cardiac medications
2. Introduce private medication coverage plans
3. Interpret Pharmacare coverage including the concepts of deductible, family maximum, formulary, reference drug and special authority
4. Define ICER and QALY and apply these terms to specific medication examples
2:40-3:20 PM Occupational Cardiology- Planes, Trains, Automobiles, Boats & Firetrucks- Dr. Amit Sodhi, MD, FRCPC Cardiologist
Objectives: After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the CCS driving guidelines for patients with Coronary Artery Disease & Syncope
2. Identify driving restrictions post-ICD implant, cardiac arrest &defibrillation
3. Describe the role of cardiac screening for pilots & firefighters
4. Recognize the cardiovascular considerations for scuba divers

3:35-4:30 PM Sports Cardiology Update- Dr. Nate Moulson, MD, FRCPC Cardiologist, Sports Cardiology BC
Objectives: After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the role of pre participation evaluation (PPE) in organized athletics
2. Identify the role of cardiac testing in patients with post- COVID symptoms
3. Explore the involvement of health care professionals in improving access to AED’s in community areas
4. Appreciate shared decision making in patients with heart disease who want to participate in vigorous exercise
4:30-5:25 PM Pulmonary Hypertension- ‘Under Pressure’ - Dr. Nathan Brunner, MD, FRCPC Cardiologist
Objectives: After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the various etiology’s of pulmonary hypertension from a clinician’s perspective
2. Identify the GP’s role in initial investigation of pulmonary hypertension
3. Identify the role of right heart catheterization in patients with pulmonary hypertension
4. Discuss the long-term role of community GP’s, cardiologists, & respirologists in monitoring drug therapy toxicities and follow up in patients with pulmonary hypertension
